SPRING GLEN-Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, John Vea Sr., age 92, passed away peacefully on his farm April 16, 2011 while surrounded by his family.
He was born Dec. 5, 1918 in Spring Glen to Charlie Pasquele and Mary Teresa Pignaneli Vea.
Married Rose Saccomano, Jan. 28, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah; she died July 16, 2006.
John was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He worked in the coal mines in Carbon County for 39 years where he was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America. During the fourth grade, John quit school and began working in the coal mines and helping out on the family farm.
During this time, his family opened their doors and helped care for a number of Carbon County families during the depression. He will always be remembered for his generosity and devotion to his family and friends.
The family wishes to thank Tisa Pendigrass, David Gurule, and the loving staff of Community Nursing Services for their love and support over the past five years. Also a special thanks to Msgr. Joseph Mayo, Deacon Silvio Mayo, Virginia Martinez, Josie Alcon and Kerry Wilson.
Survived by his children, Mary Wilberg, Carbonville, Frances (Tallee) Fillingim, Spring Glen, Jerry (Bonnie) Vea, Spring Glen, Johnny (Tammy) Vea, Carbonville, Paul Vea, Spring Glen; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose Vea; parents, siblings, Joe Vea, Teresa Uzelac, Angie LaCava, Rosie Passarella, and Phillip Vea.
Funeral Mass, Wednesday, April 20, 2011, 10 a.m,. St. Anthony Catholic Church (5 South Main, Helper). Vigil service, Tuesday evening 7 p.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Family will receive friends Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services at the church. Entombment, Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome to share memories of John online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
