PROVO, UTAH – Ray Edwin Hassinger, age 94, died at his home on April 22, 2011. He was born May 26, 1916 to Charles Edwin Hassinger and Chrystal Nelson in Mohrland, Emery County, Utah. He married Beth Jewkes in Orangeville, Utah, Dec. 23, 1941. They were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple.
His early years were spent in Salt Lake City and coal camps in Carbon County. He attended Brigham Young University for two years. He served in WWII for four and a half years, spending two and a half of those years in the Aleutian Islands.
He worked for J.C. Penney, Helper State Bank, Emery County Progress for 22 years, and Press Publishing Company in Provo for 12 years.
He was active in the LDS Church having been a ward clerk for 16 years, a Sunday School Teacher, Counselor in the Stake Young Men, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Quorum Secretary, High Priest Group Leader, Counselor in the Bishopric and a High Councilman.
Survived by son, Floyd J.(Pamela) Hassinger, Orem; daughters, Brenda Dart, Price; Layna (Clint) Harwood, Spanish Fork; 13 grandchildren, 30 great- grandchildren; one sister, Doris (Keith) Gardner, Las Vegas, Nev. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beth; son, Brent; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center, 35 East Main St., with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
