The Richfield Wildcats came to town last Tuesday and defeated the Emery High baseball team for the second time this season, this time by a score of 14-6. With the win, Richfield and Delta lead the region with one loss each while the loss puts Emery into a tie for fourth in region 12 action with Juab. Emery now has a 2-4 region record.
Richfield scored their 14 runs on 11 base hits including six doubles and a homerun, nine walks and one hit batsman. Richfield committed one error in the game.
Emery scored their six runs on five base hits, three walks and Richfield error. Emery batters struck out 11 times in the contest. Emery went down one-two-three in the first, second and third innings before finally scoring three runs in the fourth inning. Emery would score two more in the fifth inning and the final run in the seventh inning.
Richfield scored a single run in the first inning, six more in the second inning, one run in the fifth inning, five in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh inning.
In the second inning, Richfield scored a run with two out and three runners on base. Emery dropped a routine fly ball to centerfield that would have ended the inning. The next batter doubled and then the batter after that hit a homerun so Richfield scored six runs instead of one.
Emery’s five hits included four singles by Geren Payne, Tappan Draper, Nick Stoddard and Tanner Ewell. Nathan Mecham had Emery’s only extra base hit, a double.
Emery will face Manti and Juab next week. Emery defeated Manti in an earlier game at Manti and Emery lost in an earlier game to Juab at home. Emery needs to defeat both of these teams in order to position themselves for any type of playoff run with only two games left after next week.
