EHS Track hosts Darrell Gardner Invitational

Emery High School hosted their lone track meet of the season, the Darrell Gardner Invitational, on April 19. Delta High won the meet followed by Carbon High. Emery finished fifth out of 11 schools with Green River right behind in eighth place.
For Emery, sophomore Blayr Jeffs led the way. Jeffs finished second in the long jump, fourth in the 400 meters and eighth in the 100 meters. Blayr was also a member of the 4X100 relay team that finished second. Other members of that team were Catherine Dyer, Hailee Rogers and Jessica Guymon.
For the Emery boys, sophomore Brendan Jorgensen finished fourth in the long jump, fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles. Brendan was also a member of the 4X400 relay team that finished fifth. Other members of that team were Spencer Fehlberg, David Dyer and Eli Oliverson.
Sarah Swalberg and Megan Hatt led Green River High. Sarah finished first in the javelin, second in the discus and second in the shot put. Sarah is the reigning state champion in the javelin, winning with a throw that would have won all five classes at the state meet. Megan finished third in the 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles.
Other scorers for Green River were freshman Sidney Thayn in the 400 meters as she finished eighth, Dallice Johnson sixth in the discus and Justin Johnson third in the boy’s javelin.
Hailee Rogers, besides running on the relay team, finished third in the long jump and seventh in the high jump. Whitney Withers finished seventh in the shot put and seventh in the discus.
In running events, Jessica Guymon finished third in the 400 meter run, Jacee Bird was sixth in the 1600 meter run and Kassidee Oakeson was sixth in the 3200 meter run.
For the Emery boys, Spencer Fehlberg finished third in the 800-meter run and eighth in the 1600 meter run. David Dyer was seventh in the 400 meter run, Tyler Rowley was eighth in the 110-meter hurdles, Leedan Johnson was seventh in the 3200 meter run, Eli Oliverson was seventh in the high jump, Taylor Hansen was eighth in the high jump and Kalin Reynolds was seventh in the javelin.
The Emery sprint relay teams each finished sixth. The members of the girl’s team were D’Lee Gardner, Jessi Jennings, Hanna Dyer and Savannah Woolsey. The boy’s team members were Dallon Cologie, Cle Richards, Tyler Rowley and Jason Anderson.
At the Carbon High meet three days earlier, Blayr finished first in the 100 meters with at time of 13.15, second in the 400 meters at 1:02.12 and second in the long jump with a jump of 16’6 ¾. Hailee was sixth in the long jump with a jump of 15’6. Spencer was third in the 800 meter run and seventh in the 1600 meter run. Eli was fourth in the high jump at 5’8 and Brendan was fifth in the long jump at 20′. The 4X400 relay team of Brendan, Spencer, David and Eli finished eighth.
The track season is closing out fast with only two meets left on the schedule plus the BYU Invitational. The region track meet will be held at Juab on May 10 with the state meet at BYU on May 20-21.
