The Green River Pirate track team attended the region 19 track meet on Friday 13 but it was anything but scary. Six girls comprised the Pirate team and they combined placed second in region with a score of 120 points.
The Lady Pirates earned six first place metals, two second place metals and three third place metals with a few fourth place finishes for good measure. Sarah Swalberg led the way with three first place finishes in the javelin, shot put and discus and throwing a personal best in the shot with a put of 34-00.25. Megan Hatt followed closely with two first place finishes in the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles while Jamie Johnson jumped a personal best in the high jump with a jump of 4-10, earning her a first as well. Dallice Johnson came on strong with two second place finishes in the long jump and discus and came away with two PRs to boot. Taylor Johnson finished strong in the 100 meter hurdles with a third place finish earning her a spot at state as a freshman as well as Sydney Thayn in the high jump taking a third place finish.
The boys squad earned 48.5 points at the region meet with four boys participating. Jason Johnson took first place in the shot put and throwing six feet better than the next closest competitor. Brother Justin Johnson popped a 155-07 mark in the javelin for second place while Greg Johnson battled hard for a third place finish in the 200 to earn a place at state. Elias Polito battled hard on a hot summer day to set a personal best in the 1600 but wasn’t able to place in the top three.
