Graduations throughout the county: CVJH, The best is yet to come

Principal Jim Jones opened Canyon View Junior High School’s graduation ceremonies with a welcome to all who attended. Introduction of the graduates was first and Jones, Eric Mortensen and Ryan Hepworth introduced the graduates and handed out the graduation certificates.
Curt Collard announced the awards while Andy Pollaehne handed out the trophies and plaques. Jamie Gilbert, Sarah Collard, and Kendra Young were awarded the outstanding academic awards they earned by carrying a 4.0 grade point average for the three years at the school.
In the departmental awards Shaydee Murray won the most improved student, and Kendra Young won the ninth grade language arts award. Melece Pulli won for the most prolific reader, master reader, and computer tech. Most improved language arts award went to Gentry Guymon and the science awards went to Kayla Hansen and Ryan Cano. Brianne Akers was awarded the art department award and Sheriden Mortensen won for the yearbook department. For chorus, Kelsie McElprang won, Jamie Gilbert won in the Spanish department, Hans Guymon won for Spanish and geography, Randi Mecham won for geography, McKlane Allred won in the tech education department, Elly Stephens won in band, Tyler Kay won in FACS, and Katina Farnsworth also won for geography. McKlane Allred and Sarah Collard won for outstanding athlete.
Principal Jones said, “This has been an excellent class and it has been a pleasure to work with these students, along with everyone on the staff. This is a fine group of students.”
Sarah Collard gave the honor address and she spoke on the meaning and value of knowledge. “Knowledge is all the stuff you learn,” she said. Collard went on to talk about how to put the knowledge gained through school to use in life, in real situations.
Gilbert also gave an honor address. She said the things you learn in junior high are like the song “Life’s a Dance.
Young, in her honor address told the audience what she wants to achieve in life, and told the students that now is a good time to start planning. The ninth grade chorus sang a song entitled “Leave You With a Smile,” accompanied by Marilee Cox.
Emery County School District Board Member Marie Johnson talked to the graduating ninth graders about what to anticipate as they move on to high school. “It will be a wonderful experience,” she said. She gave the students advice concerning all the choices that will have to be made in high school. Johnson told them to make the most of their high school years. “There is always an avenue for everyone to participate and contribute,” she concluded.
A slide show of the graduates was presented, and Shaydee Murray spoke and thanked all the teachers and those who helped with the graduation program.
