SPRING GLEN- Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Dorothy Haycock Marshall Ward, age 93, passed away peacefully May 28, 2011 at her home while surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 16, 1917 in Helper, Utah to Thomas and Phoebe Bellows Haycock.
Married James B. Marshall Nov. 9, 1935 in Price, Utah, he passed away July 5, 1963. She later Married Archie Ward Sept. 2, 1965 in Ely, Nev. He died Oct. 8, 2003.
Dorothy always loved Carbon County and her years living there. She was especially fond of the early years in her life when she lived in the mining camps of Mutual and Rains with her husband James. Even in her last days she still spoke about the times with her friends and the close lifelong bonds they shared from the camps and those early years. No place was home like Spring Glen where she was raised and spent the last days before her death.
Dorothy loved her family and believed very strongly that you always support and stay true to your own. She was very proud of children and grandchildren and loved to spend time (never enough) with them. She was especially close with her sisters Mildred and Vera and her niece Flossie Mae, through the years they all would gather together “just the sisters” to celebrate each one’s birthday. Mom was very close with Dad’s family and we grew up knowing it was one family. She maintained close relationships with all of them throughout her lifetime being very fond of Grandma Marshall who would come to stay with mom until grandma no longer could travel. We grew up discussing politics and everyone who knew Dorothy was aware of her fervent political opinions and her willingness to correct your errors in thinking if you were not a Democrat. She continued to be aware of the political arena and true to her history had thoughtful opinions she expressed about the issues and political figures. There was no one quite like her and she will be dearly missed.
Survived by sons, James B. (Sherrie) Marshall, Sunnyside, Art J. (Mercedes) Marshall, Albuquerque, N.M.; stepson, Tom (Sandy) Ward, Wellington; sister, Mildred (Rudy) Vuksinick; 10 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents; daughter, June Prettyman; brothers, Les, Art, Cliff, and John; sisters, Flossie, Vera; niece, Flossie Mae.
Graveside service, Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 1 p.m. Price City Cemetery. Family received friends Wednesday from 12-12:45 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home.
