Many Veteran’s programs were presented throughout Emery County for Memorial Day. The American Legions from Ferron, Huntington, Emery and Orangeville visited all the cemeteries in the county where a 21 gun salute was given as well as raising the flag to full staff by local boy scouts.
At the Elmo, Cleveland, Lawrence and Huntington cemeteries, Blake Jones accompanied by Eldon Holmes gave the recitation of the Ragged Old Flag.
Kody Holmes was the bugler at these cemeteries.
Many people in the county gathered at the cemeteries to observe Memorial Day. They visited the graves of loved ones to place flowers upon the graves. They gathered to observe the Veteran’s programs. Each cemetery has
a flag pole and a Veteran’s monument.
Memorial Day is observed to honor those heroes who have fallen victim in their service to America. These soldiers and proud Americans have sacrificed their lives in the protection of their country. They deserve the utmost respect and admiration from the citizens of the United States of America.
In Cleveland the city honored one of their Veterans who was the sexton for the Cleveland Cemetery for many years, Lamond Gardner. Lamond recently passed away and Mayor Chris Parkins presented the recognition to Sherma Gardner.
