Emery County Historic Preservation Commission installed an interpretive sign at the upper camping area near Temple Mountain on May 26. The three by four foot, multicolor sign provides information to visitors to Temple Mountain concerning the historic mining activity in the vicinity. The sign is the fourth signing project and installation the Commission has undertaken, with plans to research, design and create signage for other areas of historic interest in Emery County.
The interpretive sign was funded by a matching grant through the Utah State Historic Preservation Office. Emery County matches the grant with research performed by Emery County Archives and the materials and labor provided by Emery County Road department for the base and frame for the sign.
The Preservation Commission has begun working on a multiple sign project at the site of Mohrland mining camp. Persons wishing to participate with information or funding for this project are welcome to contact Emery County Archives at 381 2671 or Emery County Historic Preservation Commission 381 5552.
