Planned power outage on Sunday
Improvements to the local electric distribution system in Huntington, Lawrence, Cleveland, Elmo and surrounding areas will require a power outage from 6 a.m.-noon on July 17 while crews complete the work.
“We know there is no truly convenient time for an interruption of electric service,” said Deb Dull, community manager for Rocky Mountain Power. “Still, this project requires a planned outage for the safety of our employees while they complete the work. Our crews do a great deal of work ‘hot,’ or while power is on. However, this project requires the lines be de-energized to complete the work.”
Line crews will be making improvements to lines that provide service to customers from the Huntington City substation, on the south side of Highway 31 north of town.
“We know this will be an inconvenience for our customers in Huntington, Lawrence, Cleveland, Elmo and surrounding areas and appreciate their patience,” Dull said.
According to Rocky Mountain Power’s Customer Guarantees, customers are given at least 24 hours notice of planned outages. Letters are being mailed to all affected customers this week.

The speaker for the July 20 Emery County Business Chamber Lunch and Learn will be Candide M. Lopez. She was born and raised in Southern California, educated at Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College. She is a wife and mother of four children, Vice President of IT at Bal Seal Engineering. Ms. Lopez began her career in education, teaching mathematics and sciences. Developing a technical prowess, she transitioned, over time, to Information Technology. In her current role as VP of IT at Bal Seal, she oversees all software, hardware, network infrastructure, VoIP, Security and all things related to the control and flow of information. Working for a global company, Lopez and her team are responsible for all divisions and facilities across the globe. Lopez will teach you how to keep your customers coming back.

Fair Entries For County Fair
It is time again for your entry in the exhibits for the Emery County Fair. To see guidelines for exhibits, please go to http://www.emerycounty.com/fair/. Guidelines generally follow the Utah State Fair requirements.
Items will be accepted Aug. 2 from 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. for general items and Aug. 3 from 9-10:30 a.m. for fresh produce, flowers only. Quilts should have a sleeve on the back of the quilt for display. Judging will be held Aug 3 and exhibit building will be open to view displays each day from Aug. 4-6. Exhibit items can be picked up at the Fair Building on Aug 8, from 10 a.m.-noon. Photography only will accept exhibits on Monday and Tuesday, but none on Wednesday.
All 4-H exhibits will be entered online by 4-H leaders only. Entries will be accepted online from July 22-28. Exhibit tags will be printed by USU Extension office.

Lifeguard Certification Class
Emery County Aquatic Center will be teaching a lifeguard certification class for adults who are at least 21 years old. There is a $100 fee. Maximum class size is 10 and consists of 31.5 hours of instruction. After you become certified you will be eligible to apply for an “open” position as a lifeguard at the Aquatic Center. is having a problem with VANDALISM IN THE PARK we would like to curb the problem by getting a notice out of those using our parks or driving by if they see something going on that is out of place. Some of the problems we are having our the pad locks are being cut off from the power boxes or power boxes broken into &/or destroyed, swings being cut off, smoking in the restrooms, making big messess in the restrooms, destroying roofs of the park buildings & pavilions, picnic tables being moved so kids can climb onto the roofs to skate off the building or similar activity, destoring the trees and bushes. The city is asking parents to be alert while at the park in what is going on and reports immediately when you see any of these things happening or destruction going on. Remember this is your parks and tax dollars that is being violated. Please call the Sheriffs office or Orangeville City.

Natasha Nicole Brinkerhoff, the daughter of Dave and Joan Brinkerhoff of Orangeville, is a 19 year old vibrant girl. In 2009 she was diagnosed with Melanoma skin cancer localized on her head. She beat that cancer like a champ.
But on April 5, 2011 she was diagnosed with stage IV Melanoma in her lungs, the most severe type of melanoma. She has tumors all over her lungs. Treatment will cost up to hundreds and thousands of dollars.

The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority is very pleased to announce “Navigating the FAFSA,” a much-needed new resource to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (commonly called the “FAFSA”). CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Help With Inhalers

The Senior Mobility Program makes available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled, power electric wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call 1-800-451-0971 to see if you qualify.
Utah Valley Cancer Center
Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available power (electric) wheelchairs to senior citizens (65 years and older) and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call toll free at 1-800-246-6010.
Free Wheelchairs to the Disabled
The Wheelchair Foundation, Intermountain Healthcare, and the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation are partnering to distribute free wheelchairs to disabled Utahns. Persons interested in getting a free wheelchair can call 1-877-387-3839, or apply at www.wheelchairfoundation.org/utah
Salvation Army
Donations are needed from Emery County residents to the Emery Chapter of the Salvation Army which provides emergency assistance for the people of Emery County as well as people traveling through the area.
