Seven to compete for Miss Emery title on Sat.

The Miss Emery Scholarship Pageant will be held on July 16 at 7 p.m. Elise DeBry is the 2010 reigning Miss Emery and she will crown the new Miss Emery for 2011. The contestants are Whitney Withers, Aixa Herrera, McCall Spears, Shantelle Hansen, Olivia Burton, Laurel Jefferies and Rachel Rogers. Also involved in the festivities will be 2010 Little Miss Emery Aspen Hansen and newly crowned Little Miss Emery 2011 Brinlee Hurdsman.
Laurel Jefferies is from Castle Dale. Her platform issue is increasing literacy in all ages. She will perform for her talent a violin solo entitled “Danny Boy”- an old English tune.
Whitney Withers is from Ferron. Her platform is being a part of the community. For her talent she will sing, “Any Man Of Mine,” by Shania Twain.
Shantelle Hansen is from Huntington. Her platform issue is Zero Fatalities, No Texting And Driving. For her talent she will play, “Fur Elise” on the alto saxophone by Ludwig Van Beethoven.
Aixa Herrera is from Green River. For her talent she will be dancing Cumbia to the music of Calo y Margarita- La Colegiala Cumbia is a Colombian musical style and folk dance that is considered to be representative of Colombia, along with Vallenato. Her platform issue is the beautification of Green River.
Olivia Burton is from Cleveland. Her talent will include an original vocal and piano number entitled, “Got my Heart.” Olivia’s platform issue is the importance of music education.
Rachel Rogers is from Castle Dale. Her platform issue is keeping the arts in our school curriculum. Her talent number will be a classical vocal solo entitled Panis Angelicus by Cesar Frank.
McCall Spears is from Castle Dale. Her platform issue is Buckle Up And Stop Texting. For her talent she will dance to “Blue Suede Shoes,” by Elvis Presley.
