PRICE- Our dearest Janel passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends after a long and courageous effort to fight cancer on July 24, 2011, at the age of 58.
She was born on Jan. 13, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah to the beloved parents of William Dean McDougald and Mildred Emma Bowen McDougald.
Janel grew up in Moab, Utah and attended Grand County High School. She was very accomplished academically and was proudly honored as homecoming queen. She was also a member of Job’s Daughters.
She married Vopel H. Lander in 1970. Janel also gave birth to her only child, Michelle Dianne Lander Bruno in the same year. They divorced in 1981. She married Jon Anast on March 30, 1985 and they later divorced in 2008. She enjoyed her time spent with her stepchildren and step-grandchildren.
At age 36, Janel went back to school and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Utah State University in 1991. Soon after, she ran a successful Xerox company for many years. Janel was also an advocate and strong supporter of the Carbon County Humane Society. She devoted many hours of volunteer work and encouraged others to help.
She adored and cherished her two granddaughters Jaycey Kaye and Kaylee Jay Bruno along with her nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and her sister-in-law Charlene McDougald. She also has been devoted to long-term friendships over the years which were a huge part of her happiness throughout her life. Her two dogs, also known as “the boys”, were very precious to her. She spent day after day attached to them.
She will be remembered as someone who was dependent, strong, determined, kind, respectful, giving, and lovable. She shared memories with everyone she spent her life with that will be remembered forever.
She is survived by her mother, Mildred E. McDougald, brother, Michael Dean McDougald, daughter, Michelle (Bert) Bruno, and two granddaughters, Jaycey and Kaylee Bruno and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her father, William Dean McDougald, stepmother, Dorris McDougald, and brother-in-law Jeff Anast.
Her family will be forever grateful for all of the doctors and medical staff members who assisted her through her difficult journey. The family would also like to give a special tribute to her daughter Michelle for all her support and commitment she gave by standing by Janel’s side each day she fought the horrible battle of cancer that unfortunately became part of her life.
A memorial vigil service will be held Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 6 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street, Price, Utah. Family will receive friends one half hour prior to service. Friends and family are welcome to come and honor the life of Janel. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends may share memories of Janel at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
