PRICE – Heaven received an angel, Muriel Marie Smith, on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011. Muriel was affectionately known as Grammy by her beloved family members. Grammy was born in Graceville, Minn. on Nov. 11, 1919 to William Michael Windorski and Myrtle Adelaide Wilson. She attended Crosby/Ironton High School and St. Cloud Business College. She later moved to Green River, Utah in 1940 and married Lee G. Smith in 1941. To this union was born six beautiful children: Thomas, Destiny, Linda, Nicholas Ray, Lora, and Valerie. They were divorced in 1969.
Grammy was a charter member of the Green River American Legion Auxilary. She worked in a variety of settings: cafes, lumber yard, Green River Missile Base, ending her career as secretary at the Green River High School where she was honored to be voted by the student body to receive many Buddy Awards. She collected history of the Green River area and preserved it in books, one of which was published. She was a member of the LDS Church.
Grammy was well-known for her delicious potato salad, homemade pies, and date nut candy. She loved our family parties and always came up with wonderful ideas for making these get-togethers special. She loved to listen to her son, Tom, sing and play the guitar. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was proud of each of them, never forgetting a birthday. She always had a kind word for family, friends, or strangers. She had a big heart and a wonderful sense of humor that touched many people. She has left a lasting impression of love in our hearts that will sustain us until we see her again.
She is survived by four children: Thomas L. (Claudia) Smith of Spring Glen, Utah, Linda G. (Gary) Fluckey of Price, Utah, Lora L. (Robert) Gabbitas of Cleveland, Utah, and Valerie A.
