Our sweet angelic mother, Joan Flora Jensen Huntsman, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father the morning of her and Jerry’s 55th wedding anniversary, Aug. 9, 2011, from complication’s of Alzheimer’s and multiple myeloma. Born Nov. 5, 1927, Huntington, Utah, to Rosel J. and Flora Jensen. Married James McKenna in 1947, divorced 1954. Married Jerry Huntsman Aug. 9, 1956.
Jerry and Joan moved to Sandy, Utah in 1960 where for 51 years their friends called them “Two Peas in a Pod”. Joan mastered lollipop making and for many years was known throughout White City and Sandy as the ‘Sucker Lady’. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend who gave mentally, physically, and financially to help others have an easier journey through life. She was a truly remarkable woman who exemplified charity and the pure love of Christ in serving all who came in contact with her.
Joan was an avid sports fan and exceptional cook. One of her joys in life was having a meal ready for anyone who stopped by. Joan was proud of her heritage and sought to honor their name. She taught her children by example to have a strong moral character, charity, kindness, and integrity. Joan believed in hard and honest work and loyalty to family, friends and employer. She received an award upon retiring from Becton Dickenson for not missing a single day of work in 27 years.
Joan was an active member of the LDS Church who conducted her life based on the teachings of Jesus Christ to “Love thy neighbor as thy self.” She was a gentle spirit who modeled “blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” Her hospice nurse said “She was one of those people who smile with their eyes” summing up what it felt like when Joan caught your eye and in that moment you know the feeling of pure love.
