ORANGEVILLE, UTAH: Kent Warren Peterson, age 65, passed away after a sudden illness on Aug. 15, 2011. He was born in Tooele, Utah on Oct. 13, 1945 to Joe W. and Enid Peterson.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Ireland. He married Barbara Robertson on July 12, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple. The church was always a big part of his life and he served in many callings including bishop, high counselor, young men’s presidency, and in the scouting program. He was a former mayor, city council member and city manager of Wendover, Utah.
Kent enjoyed working with his hands building and woodworking. He was a handyman with almost anything that needed fixing. He was one of the original members of the Orangeville Fire Department and was instrumental in its beginning. He was active in sports in his younger years and enjoyed coaching little league baseball, softball and basketball for his children. He had a love for the youth.
He also enjoyed hunting and camping. Some of his happiest times were spent riding in the mountains with Kelly Alton in the Land Cruiser, leaving no road undiscovered. He was friendly to every stranger he met, and would talk to anyone who would listen for as long as they could. He enjoyed traveling, watching westerns on TV, and quizzing others on trivia facts.
The greatest accomplishment and joy in his life was his wife, his son and daughter, and his grandchildren. He was a very giving person, and even in his death, through eye donation, he is still helping others.
Kent is survived by his wife of 43 years Barbara Peterson of Orangeville, his son Brian K. (Suzanne) Peterson of Saratoga Springs, his daughter Katie Peterson of Price, four grandchildren Alexis, Zachary, Abigail, and Isaac Peterson of Saratoga Springs. He is also survived by his parents Joe and Enid Peterson of Grantsville, and two brothers, Roger (Maureen) Peterson of North Ogden, JoeRay (Judy) Peterson of Grantsville, and brother-in-law Gale Hanson of Grantsville.
He was preceded in death by his sister JoAnn Hanson.
A visitation was held Friday, Aug. 19, from 6-8 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home at 620 North Main Street in Huntington. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 20 in the Orangeville Ward Chapel at 12 p.m. (noon), with a visitation at the church from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
