EAST CARBON – Vera Josephine Nuzio Avery, age 85, passed away Aug. 20, 2011, while surrounded by family in the comforts of her home.
She was born Aug. 11, 1926 in Sunnyside to Fortunato and Suntina Farlaino Nuzio.
Married James Francis Avery in Sunnyside on Nov. 19, 1950; their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.
Vera was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in many callings. She was President of Young Women’s and a Cub Scout Leader and Den Mother. She also served as president of the Sunnyside Reunion Committee, and as president of Beta Sigma Phi and the Cultura Club.
Vera was a lifelong resident of East Carbon where she worked as a clerk at the Dragerton Department Store. She was a proud supporter of her community and very instrumental in organizing and building many of the floats for the Labor Day and Pioneer Day parades. She will always be remembered for her generosity and devotion to others.
She is survived by her husband, James Avery, East Carbon; sons, David (Janene) Avery, East Carbon; Paul (Ann) Avery, Provo; grandchildren, James D. (Amanda) Avery, Clifton, Colo; Stephanie (Cory) Burdick, Sunnyside; Linsey (TJ) Robinson, Midvale; Amber (Jonathan) Foster, Saratoga Springs; Ryan James (Crystal) Avery, Roosevelt; Alexis (Travis) Taylor, Fillmore; Jason Avery, Saratoga Springs; Brent Avery, Provo; great-grandchildren, Morgan, D.J. and Callie Avery, Ray and Cole Burdick, Karley and Sara Robinson, Cambrie and Ethan Foster, Connor Avery, Jayden and Paityn Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, George and Frank Nuzio.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Rocky Mountain Hospice, especially Rick Stockburger, Teri Stevenson, Chandon Mills and Margaret Colosimo.
Funeral service, Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, 11 a.m., Wellington LDS Stake Center (935 E. Main) Wellington. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 E. Main Street) in Price Wednesday evening from 7 – 9 p.m. and at the Stake Center in Wellington Thursday one hour prior to service. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home, where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Vera online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
