CLEVELAND – Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Zona Jane Franklin Jensen passed away Aug. 21, 2011 in Price after a short illness.
Zona was born May 18, 1932 in Cleveland to Ervin Peter Franklin and Leona Stokes. She grew up in Cleveland, attending Cleveland Elementary School and North Emery High School, where she graduated as Valedictorian of the class of 1950. After attending the University of Utah, she returned to Cleveland where she married Henry Elroy Jensen on Nov. 16, 1951. Zona said “I was no longer the `farmer’s daughter,` but now I became the `farmer’s wife.`” Zona and Roy raised two sons, Fon and Jed.
Zona worked as a secretary for North Emery High School, was secretary of the Carbon/Emery riding club, worked at the post office, and finally retired after 30 years as secretary of Cleveland Elementary. She wrote in her 40th class reunion booklet “I’ve had a job as a farmer’s wife for the past 38 and a half years; the pay has been lousy but the benefits have been immeasurable.”
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in numerous auxiliaries such as Sunday school, Primary, and Relief Society.
Zona loved softball, which she played into her fifties. She enjoyed the outdoors, hiking in the mountains with her friend Bonnie, horseback riding, camping with her family, helping with the farm work and gardening.
