PRICE-Orson Hyrum Nelson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many passed away on Sept. 2, 2011 at the age of 79, in the Salt Lake Veterans Nursing Home, of complications due to Diabetes and Parkinsons Disease. Orson was born on Feb. 12, 1932 in Helper, Utah to Orson and Ada J. Powell Nelson. He married Sarah Irene “Sally” Halling in the Los Angeles Temple on June 26, 1958.
Orson was an Eagle Scout and learned early in his life the value of hard work through working with his father on the family farm. Orson graduated from the College of Eastern Utah prior to serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received his call to the Western States Mission in April of 1956. Orson served faithfully in many church callings as Bishop, High Counselor, Scout Master, and he was always willing to be of service to friends and neighbors. He enjoyed his professional career as a Real Estate broker and had a great love for the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Sally, and his children: Sidney (Loraina) Nelson of Price, Sylvia (James) ZoBell of Bountiful, Leif (Jeanne) Nelson of Taylorsville, Jennifer (Roberto) Navarro of South Ogden, Miles (Christine) Nelson of Price, Diana (Ryan) Garside of Orem, 27 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Billy Eugene Nelson.
The family wishes to express appreciation for the kind, attentive care Orson received at both the V.A. Nursing Home and Castle Country Care Center.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Price LDS Fourth Ward Chapel. A viewing was held on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price, Utah, and on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Price City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guest book and share memories of Orson at www.fausettmortuary.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund.
