To mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the students at San Rafael Junior high are making preparations for their upcoming 9/11 activities.
Since the students were only 2-4 years old when the attacks happened, they have been taught, in the library, about the events that took place that day. They have also watched a movie called Flight 93.
On Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. a culminating activity will take place. An assembly will be held in the gym. A former teacher, Charles Durrant, will be the guest speaker. He has been on active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
After the assembly everyone will be invited to go to the front of the school where a ribbon tying ceremony will take place. Students have written the names and ages of almost 3,000 people who were killed in the attack on a satin ribbon. These ribbons will be tied to the chain link fence in the front of the school.
There will also be a special flag ceremony where a new flag, which has flown over the nations capitol, will be raised.
The public is welcome to attend the assembly and ribbon tying.
