The Emery High cross country team competed twice last week in cross country meets and both the boy’s team and the girl’s team are doing well. In a region meet at South Sevier High School, the Emery girls finished first and the boy’s team finished second in a three-team meet.
Jaecee Bird is the top runner for the girls this season. Bird finished first at South Sevier and first at Emery and then finished ninth in the meet for smaller teams at the Provo Invitational on Friday.
Blayr Jeffs finished second in Monroe and then finished about fourteenth in the Provo meet. Jeffs has been the second best runner for the Spartans this season. Jamie Gilbert finished sixth for the Spartans in the South Sevier meet.
For the boy’s team, Caleb Woolsey finished sixth in Monroe with Leedan Johnson finishing seventh and Brendon Jorgensen finished eighth as the boy’s team finished second.
At Provo, Johnson was the top finisher for Emery in about 18th place. Woolsey was next with David Bird following for the Spartans.
Both Emery teams have three solid runners and the coaches are hoping that two more runners will step up to give the Spartans a solid five runners. Emery will compete this week in a meet at Carbon High School. That meet will be held on Wednesday afternoon.
