In today’s world, there are two very conflicting events going on daily in the news and I am not positive that anyone really gives more than a glancing thought to and really cares at all about either one.
Event one is what they are calling the Occupy Wall Street protests with the local Salt Lake City event being called Occupy Pioneer Park. Event two is the current NBA lockout. I have not noticed anyone losing any sleep over either event.
In the Occupy Wall Street group, protesters are protesting something but the message isn’t exactly clear as to what it is that they are protesting. It is somewhere between the rich have too much money to the fact that they are not going work for peanuts any longer and that they deserve better. Others have it, whatever it is, and they want it, if they could only identify it. They just know that they don’t have it and they also just know that they don’t want to work for it.
In the Occupy Pioneer Park group, it is kind of ironic that they are sleeping in the very location that the homeless and unsheltered of the city sleep in. In some ways, it is very hard to differentiate between the two groups except the homeless want to work harder during the day to get by than do the protesters. Who would ever have thought that the homeless would be the better example?
Then there is the NBA lockout. These poor souls cannot exist on the paltry sums of money that they are currently being paid let alone what the owners of the business want to pay them in the future. With most players making in the millions every year and the least player on any given team making at least a third of that, it is very bad timing for the poor players to be boo-hooing about their oppressive work place as most of us would gladly fill their shoes. It is difficult to feel sorry for those these people.
The ball players won’t be happy until they have more, the Occupiers won’t be happy until they have what they deserve and the homeless usually just want to be left alone. What is wrong with this picture? The homeless are happy with a dollar or two donation so that they can get on with their day or night.
As for me, I have very little sympathy for either of the first two groups. I came into the world with nothing, I became an adult with nothing and I have fairly well succeeded on my own. I live what I call a comfortable existence and manage to make ends meet. I don’t want someone’s help, I just want to be left alone to do my thing and hopefully success will come through my effort.
