FERRON – Geraldine Ann Sundell Mattox, age 84, passed away on Dec. 15, 2011 at home surrounded by loved ones. She was invited by her husband to join him to celebrate their 66 wedding anniversary. We will all picture them dancing across heaven on Dec. 22. Geraldine was born Jan. 13, 1927 in Murray, Utah to John B. Sundell and Amelia Thompson Sundell.
“Gerry” was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved life and proved that with her strong will to live. She loved dancing to country music and taking care of her family. She enjoyed her flower garden, camping, crocheting, reading, and any type of puzzles.
Gerry is survived by her sons: Gary (Betty) Mattox of Ferron, John (Lisa) Mattox of Grantsville, Michael (Vickie) Mattox of Carlsbad, N.M., and Robert (Jennie) Mattox of Milford, Iowa; daughters: Barbara (Don) Petty of Emery, Karen (Sammy) Caldwell of Stansbury Park, and Penny (Kevin) Stewart of Stockton; 40 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Shirl Sundell and Tom Frame; sisters, Leah Myers and Sharon Fitzgerald.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Lee Mattox; parents; daughter-in-law, Sammie Kay; granddaughters, Denise and Diane; great-granddaughter, Paige Cedy; and brothers, Don and Cliff Sundell.
The family would like to send a special thank you to nurses Shannon Green and Barbara Herrera and aides Isabelle Pitt and Barbara McFarland from Harmony Hospice and Home Health in Tooele for showing Mom so much love and respect and for helping her family through this difficult yet blessed time in their lives.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Fausett Mortuary (720 North Center Street, Castle Dale). There was a viewing at the mortuary on Sunday evening from 7-8 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Ferron City Cemetery.
