HUNTINGTON – Kenneth Peter Nielson, age 64, returned to our Father in Heaven on Dec. 15, 2011 in Price, Utah. Kenneth was born June 15, 1947 in Price to Clair T. and Beverly Tuttle Nielson. He married Lynell Collard in Huntington on June 1, 1971. On June 1, 1983, which was their 12th anniversary, they were sealed along with their children for time and eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Ken was raised in Huntington. Ken spent much of his childhood working alongside his dad and uncle, John, on the farm and in the construction business. He had a lot of good memories of those times and gained a strong, lifelong work ethic from these men. He attended Emery High School and later graduated from the College of Eastern Utah. He also attended the University of Utah and Weber State University.
After graduating from the Utah State Police Academy in 1971, he embarked on his much loved career as a police officer. He retired after 20 years in law enforcement. Ten of those years were as Chief of Police for East Carbon and Sunnyside cities. Ken had many fond memories of the people and experiences from those communities.
In 1988, after his retirement from law enforcement, Ken and his family moved home to Huntington. He then began his second career with Nielson Construction. He always felt grateful that he was able to return to his hometown and join the good people of Nielson Construction.
Ken was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved reading his scriptures and marking favorite passages. He also loved reading about church history. He had a strong testimony of eternal families.
Ken loved his family. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was proud of all of them. His best friend was his son, Jens, and he loved the times they shared together. He shared a special relationship with his mother, Beverly, and took care of her his whole life.
Ken is survived by his wife, Lynell; daughters: Mikella (Kevin) Johnson, Frelyn (Duane) Ingersoll, and Kenlyn Nielson, and his son, Jens (Donni) Nielson. Ken has five granddaughters: Elizabeth, Kathryn, MacKenzie, Madalyn, and Kaytlyn. He is also survived by his mother, Beverly; sister, Shelly (Lewis) Gilpin; brother, Chris Nielson; and sister-in-law, Vickie Nielson. He was preceded in death by his father, Clair T. Nielson; brother, Kerry Nielson; grandparents and parents-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Huntington LDS Stake Center (240 N. Main St.). There was a viewing Monday evening from 6- 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary (720 N.
