In an abbreviated Huntington City Council December meeting, the city council did the city business. The council approved Ordinance 12, which updated the Huntington General Plan. The Huntington Planning and Zoning Commission had worked for months on the revisions to the general plan and had presented it to the city council in November. The council wanted a month to study the plan and they unanimously passed the plan.
In other business, the council approved Ordinance 13, which allows the city to accept credit cards and debit cards for city services. Residents can now pay the city for any service with a Visa card, a Master Card or a Discover card. The city will charge a 99-cent fee on every transaction.
In council reports, Jeff Cowley reported that the annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning was a success with close to 120 participants running in the 5K race. Cowley reported that although it was a little chilly at 9 a.m., everyone seemed to have a good time.
Travis Larsen reported the fire station is progressing nicely now after a slow start and a late winter finish is now expected. Larsen also reported that water in the reservoirs are all at least 75 percent full with no water problems expected for next year.
The city council will continue to convene on the third Wednesday of each month during 2012. The council then convened to the city council Christmas party.
