The Green River High boy’s basketball team traveled to the Salt Lake Valley last Saturday and defeated West Ridge Academy 59-31. The Pirates improved their season record to 6-4 with the easy win.
Green River and West Ridge played the game close for a quarter. After leading by just two points after the first period at 10-8, Green River outscored West Ridge 24-5 in the second quarter to lead 34-13 at the half.
Green River won the third quarter 12-5 and then the two teams tied in the final period 13-13.
Justin Johnson, the leading scorer in all of Utah High School basketball not just 1-A, led the team with 36 points. Johnson hit four 3-pointers in the game besides dominating on the inside.
Spencer Marshall scored eight points with Erick Mendez scoring six points. Corbin Mecham, Hunter Jones, Jordan Olsen and TJ Hughes each scored two points and Colton Davis scored one point.
Green River will play at Pinnacle High in Price this Friday for their only game of the week.
