FERRON-Jesse George Conover, age 93, returned to Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 in Price, Utah, following complications from a fall. George was born on April 3, 1918 in Ferron, Utah to Jesse Maurice and Ione Stevens Conover. He married Margaret Johnson on March 24, 1940 in Provo, Utah. They were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple for time and eternity on Sept. 30, 1953.
George was raised in Ferron. He attended Utah State University and served in the Army Infantry during World War II. He spent his life cattle ranching and working in the local coal mines. He especially loved his cattle and his horses. George was active in civic organizations. He served as the Lion’s Club President, served on the Ferron City Council three terms, and has been a life long member of the American Legion. George was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in numerous callings. His favorite calling was as a missionary with his dear wife Margaret as his companion. Together they served two Stake missions and three full time missions (Louisville, Ky.; Kirkland, Ohio; Palmyra, N.Y.). He had a deep testimony of the doctrine and he loved the scriptures. His family was the central thing in his life. He enjoyed world travel, especially the trips with his extended family.
George is survived by his wife of 71 years; son Paul G. (Kathleen), Ferron; daughter Catherine (Curtis) Steele, Price; son Sterling J. (Janet), Hana, Wyo.; 20 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Maurine (Joel) Jensen; Kathleen (Grant) Richards; and Ione (Richard) Scow; one grandson Gordon Paul Conover; two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 at 12 noon at the Blue Hills/Millsite LDS Chapel (35 West 200 North, Ferron, Utah). A viewing was held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment was in the Ferron City Cemetery.
