Larry Ray Olsen peacefully passed away at home Jan. 27, 2012. He was born July 12, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John H. and Betty Roundy Olsen. Larry grew up in West Jordan and graduated from Bingham High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army with the Security Agency and honorably served his country.
He married Karen Beckstead and had four sons. He worked for the Salt Lake County Fire Department for more than 30 years and developed many life-long friends. He had strong leadership skills and took a lot of pride in his endeavors. He always accomplished every task he put his mind to. He raised his family in South Jordan. After retiring, he moved to Elmo, Utah, and spent his winters in Yuma, Ariz. and summers in Star Valley, Wyo.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them hunting, fishing, golfing, and anything to do with the outdoors.
Survived by Pam Olsen; three sons, Pat (Marcie) Olsen, Chad Olsen, and Brett (Samantha) Olsen; daughter-in-law, Traci (Ryan) Lish; sister, Linda (Cesar) Cabrales; and brother-in-law, George Hotchkiss; eight grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.Preceded in death by his parents; son, Jamie Olsen; sisters, Kathy Hotchkiss and Janice Pierce; and nephew, Cody Dumas.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Midvale, where there will be a viewing Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and again Thursday one hour prior to services. Interment, South Jordan City Cemetery.www.goffmortuary.com
