Henry Lamar Behling (1918 – 2012)

Henry Lamar Behling, 93, joined his sweetheart on Jan. 13, 2012. This was a long-awaited, joyful reunion. Henry was born Feb. 25, 1918, in Castle Dale, Utah, to Herman August Ferdinand and Hedvig Catherine Peterson Behling. He grew up in Castle Dale, where he learned to love carpentry work and met Ellen. He married Lois Ellen Snow on Nov. 9, 1940, in the Manti Temple.
Henry loved America and served in the army during World War II. He always displayed a flag at his home. He was a journeyman carpenter and built many churches, seminary buildings, apartments, homes, and a hotel- to name a few. After his retirement he spent many hours using his skills to build wooden gifts, help others with projects, help remodel homes, help at DI, and continually bless many lives. He had a large garden and shared with family and neighbors. He found great joy in hanging bags of freshly picked corn on the fence for any passerby to take home and enjoy.
Henry loved the out-of-doors and spent much of his time hunting, fishing, camping, and seeking adventure. His children and grandchildren also learned this love of the outdoors and nature from grandpa. Henry was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he had many opportunities to serve. He was the contractor-supervisor of the construction of the Castle Dale Stake Center, dedicated by Pres. David O. McKay 8 July 1951. He served a mission as the foreman for the construction of the Pocatello North Stake Center. He especially loved serving in the Stake Presidency, as the High Priest group leader, a home teacher, and financial clerk. He enjoyed people and made many life-long friends.
He is survived by his children Ruth, Phillip (Margaret), Max (Ann), and Denice (Brent) and 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; also a brother Rex (Thora) and sister Alice. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 in the Timpanogos Second Ward Chapel, 800 North 100 West, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Interment in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
