Emery wrestling to send 15 to state tourney; Chet Funk wins region competition

Last weekend, the Emery High wrestling team traveled to the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield and participated against the other 2-A schools in the 2-A divisionals to determine placement at the upcoming 2-A Utah State wrestling championships. Emery finished in fifth place in their division and qualified 15 wrestlers for the state meet.
Emery had two wrestlers make their weight championship match. Cezly Collard at 120 pounds lost to a 2-time state champion to finish second after wrestling a great tournament. Chet Funk won the title in the 170 pound division. Funk had the initial takedown and then gradually built points until he pinned his opponent in the second round. Funk now has a season record of 43-3. Funk was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament in the upper weight classes.
Also qualifying for state were Jason Anderson at 113 pounds, Ryan Cox and Wyatt Oveson at 126 pounds, Paden Wells at 132 pounds, Nagel Viera at 138 pounds, Cole Guymon and Dakota Curtis at 145 pounds, Tyson Stout at 160 pounds, Brett Sorensen at 182 pounds, Ky Jensen and Kenden Huff at 195 pounds and Zach West and Brandon McCandless at 220 pounds.
