Eastern Utah Community Credit Union and the 100 Percent For Kids Foundation have jointly donated more than $5,000 to Emery High School for financial calculators. Both sponsors are excited to have this opportunity to contribute to the education of students in our area.
100 Percent For Kids foundation that is funded by credit unions and credit union members that value education. The foundation was formed in late 2002, and has funded more than $4.4 million in 635 schools throughout Utah.
Credit Unions have traditionally strived to serve communities through financial service: however, Eastern Utah Community Credit Union believes that there is no better way to contribute to communities than providing educational assistance to our students.
Josh White, an Emery High School teacher, applied for a grant from 100 Percent For Kids to provide the school with graphing calculators. 100 Percent For Kids awarded White with money to purchase approximately 25 calculators. Eastern Utah Community Credit Union matched the grant so that Emery High could double the amount of calculators purchased. White hopes that the calculators will not only improve test scores in the classroom, but also on college entrance exams.
Due to the high cost of purchasing a graphing calculator, Emery High School plans to create a rental program where the students are able to pay a minimal amount to rent the calculator for a year. This rental fee, in turn, will provide the means to purchase additional calculators in future years.
