The Emery County Relay for Life 2012 is gearing up for action. The Relay will be held on July 13-14 this year at the Emery High track. Festivities will begin at 5 p.m. on July 13 with a program, survivors lap and team introduction. There will be a dinner and entertainment all through the night. There will be a bike ride around the area and then back to the relay for the festivities. One highlight of the Relay is always the luminary ceremony which celebrates those who have cancer now, survivors and those who have lost the fight. The luminary ceremony is held at dusk. Luminaries can be purchased ahead of the relay from Jessica at 820-1020 and Gerri at 384-3137.
An all you can eat pancake breakfast will be held on July 14. Other activities on other dates will include a softball tourney at the Huntington softball complex and a 3 on 3 basketball tourney. More details coming on these Relay related events.
If you would like to be a part of Relay for Life 2012 in any way, please attend the Kick-off event on April 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Castle Dale Senior Center. At this event, committee organization will take place and you can lend your help in whatever way works for you.
The committee has need of people to help with luminaries, team recruitment, activities, dinner, entertainment, publicity, set-up, clean-up, cooks, sponsorships, T-shirts and everything in between. If you can help in any way and would like to be a part of the fight against cancer, please come and volunteer. Come and sign up your team.
Cancer is a disease that will affect every family in some way. A cure is out there and we need to be a part of the fight and the cure for cancer. Everyone in the county is needed to team-up for a cure.
You can sell items at your booth or raise your money ahead of time. Each participant is asked to raise $100 for relay.
There will be a relay for life quilt prepared for a raffle and other quilts available on the raffle. Watch for ticket sales coming soon.
The Relay committee is sponsoring a county wide yard sale on June 2 from 8 a.m.-12 noon. These yard sales will be held at each city park in the county. If members of the community would like to participate and sell their items at the yard sale there will be a small donation that will go to the Relay for Life. Everyone is encouraged to come out that morning and bring their treasures to sell and make some extra cash for themselves while helping the Relay for Life. Or come out and shop and hop from city to city to find bargains and help relay at the same time.
The theme for this year’s relay will be announced at the Relay kick-off on April 11. On June 23 there will be a Catch em’ for a cure bass tournament at Huntington State Park and all proceeds will go to relay for life.
