Emery High’s baseball team defeated South Sevier April 3 soundly by a score of 20-2 as the Spartans played well both offensively and defensively throughout the game. This was a home game.
Due to the spring break, Emery then turned right around and traveled to Carbon High to face the 3-A third ranked baseball team on Dino home field. Carbon took the game by the score of 8-2.
Brandon Oliver pitched the South Sevier game and picked up the complete game win by limiting the Rams to five hits during the five innings of play. The Ram runs scored in the final inning, as they were shutout throughout the first four innings. The mercy rule was mercifully applied.
Emery scored seven runs in the first inning, six more runs in the third inning and seven runs in the fourth inning. Emery had 17 base hits in the game with 16 of those being singles. Tappan Draper had the only extra base hit, a double.
Jordan Cox pitched the Carbon game for Emery. Carbon was held scoreless in the first two innings and the last two innings but the Dinos scored four runs in each of the third and fourth innings to grab the win.
Emery scored a run in the first inning to take the early lead but then the Spartans could only score once more, a single run in the sixth inning.
Emery had only two base hits off of Dino pitching in the game but were helped somewhat by six Carbon errors.
Emery is now 7-5 for the season and 3-1 in region 15 action. The Emery Spartan baseball team took firm control of region 15 baseball action last week with two road victories. On Tuesday, Emery traveled to San Juan and defeated the Broncos 14-3 to end the first half of region action with a 3-1 record. Emery then opened the second half with a 7-4 win at Richfield.
At San Juan, Emery also had 12 base hits while the Emery pitching of Geren Payne and Jordan Cox limited the Broncos to only three base hits. Emery scored once in the first inning, three times in the second inning, three more times in the third inning and seven times in the fourth inning. San Juan scored once in the third inning and twice in the fifth inning.
Tappan Draper scored three times and had a single and a double in the game. Geren Payne, Dominic Rondinelli, Colton Collard and Curtis Mason all hit doubles in the game. Rondinelli also had two singles, as did Jordan Cox. Kaden Feichko also had a single.
Against Richfield, Emery led 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the last inning of regular games. Richfield scored three times in that inning to send the game into overtime. Neither team scored in the eighth inning but Emery scored three times in the ninth inning and then held Richfield to three batters up and three batters down in the bottom of the inning to win the game. In the ninth inning, Draper singled, Payne singled and then Feichko singled scoring Draper. Rondinelli then hit a double scoring Payne and Feichko.
In the game Draper had three singles and scored twice. Rondinelli also had a pair of singles in the game beside the double. Payne had a single and a double, Feichko had two singles and Ridge Nielson, Colton Collard and Curtis Mason each had a single. Emery hosts Grand this Tuesday as they look to avenge their only region loss this season. Emery travels to South Sevier on Friday.
