The First Annual Cowboys Memorial Day Rodeo, presented by Emery Telcom, will come to the Castle Dale Rodeo Arena in Castle Dale and is sanctioned by the Rocky Mountain Professional Rodeo Association. “As there are several rodeo competitors from Carbon and Emery counties who compete in the RMPRA circuit we are pretty pumped up to have an RMPRA sanctioned rodeo here in Castle Country” says committee man Justin Truman, Huntington, who currently stands first in Tie Down Calf Roping in the RMPRA standings.
Although the official RMPRA rodeo season runs from November to October, the Cowboys Memorial Day Rodeo presented by Emery Telcom will act as the summer season opener rodeo of the RMPRA circuit. Truman explains that “This rodeo will not only set the pace for the rest of the season, but will give more local competitors a chance to compete and show off their skills to a hometown crowd in a professionally produced show.”
Chase Sherman of Huntington who also sits on the organizing committee and who currently ranks in the top two in the RMPRA Bull Riding standings commented that “another cool thing about the RMPRA Rodeos is that not only do you have your regular pro-am cowboys competing in the RMPRA Rodeos, but you also have some of the big boys from the PRCA competing in these rodeos,” Sherman continues, “this gives those who have not yet jumped up to the PRCA ranks a chance to compete and rank themselves against the PRCA cowboys.”
The livestock for the Cowboys Memorial Day Rodeo will be provided by Diamond H Rodeo of Smithfield, Utah who has won several Bucking Bull and Horse of the Year Awards and have also received “Stock Contractor of the Year” awards. The Bull fighters will be Mark and Justin Scherer a father and son team from Jerome, Idaho who were recently honored as “2011 Bull Fighters of the Year”.
An added event will be Miniature Bucking Bull Riding both nights with the mini bulls provided by CRC Miniature Bucking Bulls who provided bulls for the 2011 World Miniature Bull Riding Finals held last October. Mini bull riding will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights with the actual Rodeo at 7:30.
The Rocky Mountain Professional Rodeo Association encompasses four states and holds approximately 40 rodeos a year stretching through Nevada, Utah, Idaho and Wyoming with the finals held each November at Heber City, Utah. The Cowboys Memorial Day Rodeo held at Castle Dale will be the most Eastern RMPRA rodeo in the circuit for 2012.
All tickets are general admission with no assigned seating and can be purchased at the gate. Ticket prices are $10 for 12 years and over, 6-11 years $7, five and under free with a Family Pass of (4+ family members) just $30.
