The MECCA bike club held their spring ride recently headquartered in Green River. The Green River motels and restaurants gave special discounts to the more than 100 riders who participated in the event. The bike festival is in its 26th year.
The festival began with a kick-off dinner at the John Wesley Powell museum in Green River. Prize drawings were also held and big winners of the new bikes were Ruby Winter of Salt Lake and Matt Cheney of Salt Lake.
The bikes were contributed by Deckers Bicycle and Cannondale.
The rides were spread throughout the Swell and were geared to all riding abilities. The spring festival is a family event and many groups were out enjoying the spring weather in Emery County. Organizers want to thank all who helped and who rode along to help with any breakdowns and repairs and to pick-up any stragglers along the routes.
Many of the participants camped in the Swell and others enjoyed the amenities back in Green River. MECCA is looking forward to the Fall Festival which is held Sept. 28-30 at the Wedge.
The club takes good care of their riders and on Friday night a Spaghetti dinner was provided from the Tamarisk Restaurant; Smoke and Spice held a BBQ on the Swell on Saturday Night. Sunday Morning breakfast at the Tamarisk and Sunday Morning continental breakfast by the Coffee Shop in Green River. The Search and Rescue also provided their services to keep track of all the riders. The rides can vary from eight-20 miles. Beginners can stop whenever they want.
