HUNTINGTON – Merlin E. Black, age 90, passed away July 3, 2012 at Emery County Nursing and Rehab in Ferron. Merlin was born Sept. 10, 1921 in Castle Dale to Clint and Annie Irene Farris Snow. She married Martin Rex Black in November of 1939 in Castle Dale. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Merlin was born and raised in Emery County. She learned the value of hard work at a young age. She graduated from South Emery High School, was a member of the LDS Church, and was a teller for many years for Carbon Emery Bank in both Price and Huntington. Merlin’s hobbies included gardening and crocheting, and she enjoyed giving service to others. She will be remembered as an honest, hardworking, loving wife, mother, and grandmother who always put her family’s needs first.
Merlin is survived by her daughter, Patsy Allred of Cleveland; daughter-in-law, Julie Black of Grantsville; four brothers: Frank, Lamar, Kay, and Richard; half brother, Richard Snow, sister, Bettie Mae; 13 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex; parents; two sons, Duane Black and Bill Black; son-in-law, Jimmy Allred; daughter-in-law, Marlene Black; two sisters, Rhita Miller and Joyce Jensen; brother, Bazel Snow; and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Huntington LDS First/Fifth Ward Chapel (115 South 400 East). There was a viewing at the church from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be held in the Huntington City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
