Sheriff’s Office to sponsor identity theft seminar

By By

Emery County Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring a seminar on identity theft and internet safety. The Utah Attorney General’s Office will be presenting the seminar. Identity theft has been the number one consumer complaint reported to the Federal Trade Commission for the past 11 years. Not only is identity theft one of the fastest growing crimes in the country, it is also a crime that makes it difficult for victims to restore their good credit and financial health. This seminar will provide a detailed overview of identity theft, the latest internet scams, Facebook security concerns and an introduction to Utah’s solution to identity theft crimes. Attendees will also learn about a new free program that proactively protects Utah kids from identity thieves.
During the past several years, many Emery County residents have been the targets or victims of identity theft or internet, phone or mail scams. No one is safe from these crimes. Emery County Sheriff’s Office encourages citizens to attend this seminar to minimize their vulnerability.
Seminars will be held on Sept. 5 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Green River High School auditorium, 745 West Pirate Avenue, Green River, and on Sept. 6 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Emery High School auditorium, 955 North Center, Castle Dale.
