The Emery High Lady Spartans kicked the volleyball regular season off to a great start with a four-game road victory at Beaver last week. After starting the season with mixed results at a tournament at Dixie High the weekend before, the Spartans came out strong in this road game. Emery defeated Beaver 26-24, 25-23,14,25 and 25-21.
In the opening game, the score went back and forth all game long with neither team ever having much of an advantage. The score was 6-6, 14-15, 20-20 and 23-23. Beaver scored to take the lead at 24-23 but the Spartans won the next point to tie the score. Ashlynn Allred then served and the Spartans scored the final two points to take the game.
In game two, Beaver took a big lead at 16-11 and then at 21-17 but the Spartans were not to be denied the game. Emery grabbed their first lead at 22-21 with Hailee Rogers serving. Emery scored five straight points with Rogers serving. Earlier in the game, Rogers had served for six straight points.
Beaver took the score to 23-22 but the Spartans responded well by scoring the next point and then Shelby Allred served the final two points for the win.
In game three, Emery trailed early and then never really got into this game as they were easily blown out. Emery trailed 5-2, 12-8 and then 22-10 as Beaver scored nine straight points.
In game four, Emery and Beaver were tied at 1-1 when Beaver ran off seven straight points. Emery fans were probably thinking, not again, and it wasn’t. The Lady Spartans clawed their way back into the game, finally grabbing the lead at 20-19. Emery then led 23-20, 23-21 and then 25-21 for the win.
Playing for the Spartans at Beaver were seniors Jentrie Allred, Shelby Allred, Hailee Rogers and Jessica Guymon. Also playing were juniors Hannah Dyer and Sidnee Conder. Sophomores Ashlynn Allred, Cassidy Labrum and Bailey Rasmussen also saw playing time.
Emery will play at home on Tuesday against North Sevier at 6:30 p.m.
On Thursday at Carbon High, freshmen/sophomores will play at 3 p.m. with varsity scheduled to start approximately 6:30 p.m. that evening.
