The residents of Clawson gathered in the Clawson Park Sept. 22 for a Chili Cook Off to celebrate the end of summer and just have fun. On two of the park tables were large photo books of past Clawson events for anyone that was interested to view. The city park had games set up for the children such as counting beans in a jar, coloring pictures on the top of Frisbees and climbing on the old cottonwood tree. Some were seen playing basketball on the tennis and ball court.
Mayor Mandie Price welcomed everyone to the event and after an opening prayer she gave a tribute to past Postmistress Sandra Justice. Justice was given a decorative clock in commemoration of her many years as Postmistress at the Clawson Post Office. Sandra has retired after 31 years of service to the community. On the back of the clock is a photo of the Clawson Main Street with the Post Office.
Justice thanked everyone and said she misses that job already, but after 31 years it was time to retire.
The winner of the Chili Cook Off was Town Council Member Jerry Price, Carry Bloomer’s chili was second and Shawn Price’s chili was third. The two judges for the chili cook off were Laramie Morgan and Nicole Morgan.
Mayor Price invited everyone to come forward and enjoy the chili and scones. There were many different pots of chili to choose from. When the eating of chili slowed down Auctioneer Larry Cook was invited to auction off tables full of cakes, pies, cinnamon rolls, hot cross buns, bags and back packs all donated by members of the community.
The funds from this auction go toward funding next years Clawson Day Celebration and other community events throughout the year.
