The Green River lady Pirates secured a trip to the state volleyball tournament for the second year in a row by sweeping their last two region games against the Monument Valley lady Cougars and the Navajo Mountain lady Jaguars.
The lady Pirates entered the game against the lady Cougars needing a win to secure their second place finish in region 19 and a win they got but not without some effort.
The Pirates started slow and dropped the first set before a fire was lit under them which got them going and they took the following three sets to claim the win. The game against the lady Jaguars the next day was a long bus ride to play a game that was pretty much decided before the game began. The lady Pirates concluded the regular season against the Grand County lady Red Devils in a tussle that had the Pirates losing in three hard fought games of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-17. The lady Pirates are anxious for a trip to the big top to play against the top schools in 1A volleyball. Fingers are crossed and let the fun begin. Their first game is Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Utah Valley University in Orem.
