Mary Jane Oveson Mills Evans, “Nana”, 71, passed away on Oct. 12, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nev., after an ongoing struggle with various medical issues. She was born on Jan. 29, 1941 in Elmo to Smiles and James Oveson. Mary Jane married Roy Mills, later divorced. She later married Waylon Evans, now deceased.
Nana was very much loved by her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her unconditional love for them will be greatly missed. There was never a time when she was not a champion for her children or grandchildren, whether they had done something right or wrong. Each one has at least one afghan she crocheted especially for them.
Nana was a unique person with a unique perspective on life. She was adventurous and brave, always taking the next step in life without hesitation, wherever that may lead. Nana could always be counted on to see the side of the issue that others miss. She was a great listener. Nana loved to read and she liked to watch the political pundants on television. However, her most favorite activity was staying up well into the night talking on the phone or in person with Jamie. They are together again now and have a lot of catching up to do.
Nana was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Jamie Rae Hassell; grandson, Weston Evans; daughter-in-law, Keven Mills; parents Smiles and James Oveson; brother Jimmy Oveson; sister, Bunny Anderson; and son-in-law, Daniel Lioliadis.
She is survived by her children Jase Mills, Price; Kim Coleman, Gillette, Wyo; Mary Jo (Lavar) Winsor, Las Vegas, Nev; Roylynn (Paul) Brand, Long Island, N.Y.; Andrew (Debbie) Mills, Las Vegas, Nev; and Shay (Marija) Evans, Costa Mesa, Calif; brother, Joe (Debbie) Oveson, Huntington; sisters, Ivina Oveson, Salt Lake City; Penny Arno, Price; and Shelly Morris, Golden, Colo; and 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Davis Memorial, Las Vegas, Nev.
