By GARY ARRINGTON Sports Writer

The Emery High Spartan boy’s basketball team traveled to Duchesne last weekend and participated in the Eagle basketball tournament on Friday and Saturday nights along with host Duchesne, Rich High and West Wendover High. Emery defeated Rich on Friday night 65-27 as the Rebels were clearly outmanned in this game and then Emery defeated the host team 63-58 to claim the title.
Against Duchesne, Emery was comfortably ahead in this game until the fourth quarter hit and then for whatever reason, the Eagles couldn’t miss it seemed. Emery was leading 49-28 going into the final quarter and the Spartans were into their bench a little bit. Duchesne won the final period 30-14, outscoring Emery by 16 points in that quarter to make the final score competitive. Emery might need to work on finishing a game to keep an easy victory easy all the way to the end to keep fans from getting nervous.
Emery had 10 players score in each of the games last week, as the Spartans appear to have a lot of depth this season. Junior Bailey Faimalo was the player of the game against Rich as he led the team in scoring in 17 points while also handing out 7 assists in the game. Faimalo also led the team with 6 steals as the junior point guard played a complete game in leading the team.
Faimalo also was the leading scorer against Duchesne with 11 points, the same as Brendon Jorgensen also had. Against Rich, Emery won the first quarter 14-7 and the second quarter 19-6 to lead 33-13 at the half. Emery then won the third quarter 28-14 to extend the lead and then closed out the game by winning the final period 4-0. Against Duchesne, Emery led 17-5 after the first quarter and 34-17 at the half as they also won the second quarter by 5 points at 17-12. Emery extended the lead in the third quarter by four points and then scored just enough to win the game.
Dawson Jensen also finished in double figures against the Rebels with 10 points and Jensen also had 10 rebounds to finish with a double double for the night. Jensen also had 10 points against Duchesne.
Also scoring against Rich were Jorgensen with 9 points, David Dyer with 7 points, Otis Addison with 5 points, Drexler Tanner, Gavin McDermott and Corbin Barnett with 4 points each, Dillon Wilstead with 3 points and Spencer Labrum with 2 points.
