Cpl. Kenny Kel Baker, son of Bob and Ileen Baker of Emery has been awarded the naval and marine medal for professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving as a gun collateral duty inspector, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 16 in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Baker as one of the few Linkless feed system subject matter experts was familiar with a number of problems plaguing the new weapon system. While conducting a class on a post flight aircraft he discovered a malfunction in the weapon system that rendered the system non-operational. Baker was able to implement his procedures on the spot and repair the system. Following his repairs the aircraft was ready for combat mission the following morning. Due to his thorough understanding of the weapon system Baker, developed maintenance actions not yet identified in publications. Saving Marine Corps the cost to ship, repair, and return to theater five systems. Baker’s comprehensive knowledge of the LFS and his unmatched abilities as CDI has contributed significantly to the success of the mission. His contributions, accomplishments, and success are a direct result of his leadership, technical competence and initiative and are truly deserving of the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Baker’s initiative, perseverance, and total dedication to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service. The family and friends of Cpl Baker are very proud of him and are waiting for his safe return home.
