Coming off a blow out win against the lady Red Devils of Grand High School where the Red Devils were shut out in the first and third quarters, Green River’s lady Pirates extended their winning streak by winning the Valley High School’s Buffalo Shootout for the third year in a row against the home team. The first game had the lady Pirates pitted against the Tabiona lady Tigers where Michaela Hughes had a game high 20 points with Jamie Johnson and Taylor Johnson pulling 10 rebounds apiece and adding eight and nine points respectively. The rest of the team was very active with Feleisha Antillon dishing out five assists, three steals and eight points, Kira Engleman and Hannah Manalili each adding five points and Sydney Thayn adding four points. This was an easy win for the Pirates which gave the team a chance to spread the fun around and get everyone involved. The championship game against the lady Buffalos saw a different look for the lady Pirates as tough defense was the deciding factor while the bulk of the scoring came from outside the paint as Feleisha Antillion dropped four long bombs on her way to a game high 15 points and Kira Engleman dropped in seven. Jamie Johnson added 10 points and nine rebounds and Michaela Hughes added nine points and 10 rebounds. Coach Greg Parsons commented after the game that this was a good win for the Pirates as they had to remain focused throughout the game and play hard nosed defense in order to pick up the win. The two previous games the lady Pirates won didn’t stretch the girls like this game did and the outcome wasn’t decided until the final ticks of the clock. The girls will need this stamina as they face the 2A lady Bronco’s of San Juan at home on Dec. 8.
