Lady Spartans prevail over North Sevier; drop Uintah

The Emery High Lady Spartans played two home basketball games last week. The Emery team lost their first game of the season on Tuesday night when the Uintah Utes came to town and the Spartans rebounded with a win over North Sevier on Thursday night. Final score of the Uintah game was 47-41 and the final score of the North Sevier game was 60-29.
In the loss to Uintah, the Spartans did not play as well as a team as in previous games as they had numerous turnovers, in the mid 20s, and didn’t shoot the ball as well as they had been doing.
Emery led after the first quarter 6-5. Uintah won the second period 11-9 and led at the half 16-15. Emery stepped up the scoring in third quarter but then so did Uintah and Emery lost the period 23-16. Emery did win the final period 10-8 to get to the final score.
Emery shot only 14 percent from behind the 3-point line in the game as compared to 41 percent in the last game of the week.
Guards Hannah Dyer and Ashlynn Allred led the team in scoring for the week. Dyer scored 16 points against North Sevier to lead the team while Ashlynn scored 14 points. Ashlynn scored points against Uintah while Dyer scored 7 points. Against Uintah, Bailey Rasmussen also scored 9 points and Jeridi Price scored 8 points. Lexie Huntington scored 5 points and Kelcie Cox scored 3 points.
Against North Sevier, Huntington scored 8 points, Price scored 7 points, Shelby Allred scored 5 points, Rasmussen and Sidnee Conder scored 4 points each and Emily Olsen scored 2 points.
In other stats for the week, Ashlynn Allred had 7 steals against North Sevier and 3 steals against Uintah to lead the team in this category. She also is in the top five in the state in steals. Jeridi Price led the team in rebounds both nights with 8 against North Sevier and 6 against Uintah.
Cox and Dyer led the team with 3 assists each against North Sevier and Ashlynn led the team in assists against Uintah with 2.
The team will play two games this week, both on the road. The team will travel to Beaver Tuesday night and then will travel to Parowan Thursday night.
