Last week our Christmas celebrations were abruptly interrupted by a evil act perpetrated upon innocent children. In the aftermath of the unspeakable horror, we have been humbled and brought closer to our God and to our Savior Jesus Christ, whose birth we celebrate. As our nation’s leaders clamor to create more laws to eradicate evil, I wanted to share my thoughts. When my children were growing up, I taught them this “Scottish Blessing:” If there is righteousness in the heart, There will be beauty in the character. There will be harmony in the home. There will be order in the nation. There will be peace in the world. A wise man, David O. McKay, once said, “No other success can compensate for failure in the home.” Let us each look within our own homes and find ways to heal our families by living as the baby whose birth we celebrate taught by his example. With a New Year comes new things. As we enter this New Year, may we continue to work together to protect our faith, families, freedom and the future for our little ones.
