Lady Spartans pick up first region win against Rams

The Lady Spartans traveled to Monroe to face the Lady Rams in region play and came home victorious 46-38 while the Spartan men stayed home and hosted the Rams. South Sevier won 73-60. For the Lady Spartans, Ashlynn Allred scored 19 points to lead the team to the win. Emery led 12-5 after the first quarter and 28-13 at the half before the Lady Rams had a big third quarter to trail only 38-31 after three periods. Emery won the final period 8-7 to secure the region win.
Allred was 3 for 7 behind the 3-point line and 2 for 2 at the free throw line. The rest of the team made 4 of 14 free throws. Jeridi Price scored 10 points to be the only other Spartan in double figures. Shelby Allred hit two 3-pointers to score 6 points to be the next leading scorer.
Other Spartans that scored were Bailey Rasmussen with 4 points, Hannah Dyer with 3 points, Ashton Bell with 2 points and Emily Olsen and Kelcie Cox with 1 point each. Rasmussen led the team with 5 rebounds while Cox led with 4 assists. Ashlynn had 4 steals. In this week’s action, the girls continue on the road while the boys will play a pair at home. The Lady Spartans travel to Richfield on Tuesday night to play the top ranked team and then travel to Grand on Saturday for a game scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The men’s team will host Richfield on Wednesday night and then will host Grand on Saturday night with game time set for 7 p.m.
