ORANGEVILLE – Royce J. Olsen, age 86, passed away Dec. 30, 2012 in Price, Utah. Royce was born June 13, 1926 in Emery, Utah to Neldon and Melva Nielsen Olsen. He married Lorene Van Buren on May 7, 1946 in Orangeville, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on May 7, 1948.
Royce graduated from South Emery High School in 1943. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 39. Royce was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many capacities. He served a mission with his wife at the Family History Center and at the Granite Mountain Vault. He was a lifetime Boy Scouter serving many years as a Scout Master. He earned his Eagle Scout award and received the Silver Beaver award. In his occupation, he worked as a lineman for Utah Power and Light for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985. Royce loved serving in the Manti LDS Temple with his wife. He will be remembered as a hard worker, who taught his family the value of hard work, and was a loving family man.
Royce is survived by his wife, Lorene; children: Kerry (Dana) Olsen of Orangeville, Wayne (Kelly) Olsen of Orangeville, and Rolene (Wane) Justice of Huntington; sister, Barbara Jean Peacock; 11 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nellie Ann Ware; brothers-in-law, Rue P. Ware and Jim Peacock; and grandson, Courtney Justice.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at 12 Noon at the Orangeville LDS Ward Chapel (45 West 100 South). There was a viewing Wednesday, Jan. 2 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary (720 North Center St., Castle Dale) and on Thursday at the church from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Orangeville City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guest book and share memories of Royce at www.fausettmortuary.com.
