County employee arrested on drug charges

An Emery County employee was arrested on March 8 at the Emery County building in Castle Dale. The defendant, Cardell Sackett was an employee in the Economic Development Office. He was charged with nine counts of distribution of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.
An informant alerted the Emery County Sheriff’s Office that the defendant was allegedly selling prescription drugs.
Sheriff Greg Funk and Det. Garrett Conover arranged for some controlled buys from the defendant.
The defendant alleged he had prescriptions for a medical condition. But there were additional pills in his possession not associated with his prescription.
The defendant made his first appearance in court on March 12. He is being held at the Emery County jail on $135,000 bail.
The defendant has no prior history or arrests, His DOB is May 6, 1957.
With the various counts were different drugs and dates, count 1 a second degree felony alleges that on or about Dec. 12, 2012, the defendant did knowingly and intentionally distribute a controlled or counterfeit substance listed as morphine. Count two lists hydrocodone on or about Dec. 12, 2012. Count three on or about Dec. 12, 2012, lists diazepam.
Count four on or about Jan. 11 lists morphine; count five on or about Jan. 11, lists hydrocodone; count six on or about Jan. 11 lists diazepam; count seven on or about Feb. 7, 2013 lists hydrocodone; count eight on or about Feb. 7 lists diazepam; count nine on or about Feb. 22, lists hydromorphone.
Counts four, five, six, seven, eight and nine have been enhanced due to being in a drug free zone which is within 1,000 feet of a school or house of worship.
