FERRON – Karen Barton, age 84, passed away April 20, 2013. Karen was born June 26, 1928 in Orangeville, Utah to Jesse and Edna Stilson Sitterud as one of 16 children. She married Jerald Lee Barton on Jan. 23, 1947 in the Manti LDS Temple. Jerald passed away June 2, 2003.
Karen was raised in Orangeville as part of a large, loving family. That loving relationship has continued for many years as the sisters meet every Monday for lunch. She loved music and shared this gift with family and enjoyed many years of laughter and singing with the ladies quartets. She and Jerald raised their three boys on a dairy farm and taught them the value of hard work. She loved being involved in their children’s lives and activities. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she had the opportunity to serve in many capacities, including serving a mission with her husband in Jackson, Mississippi. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband. People were naturally drawn to her quick wit and loving nature. She was adored by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends.
Karen is survived by her children: Steven (Joy) Barton of Elmo, Roger (Shelley) Barton of Ferron, and Brent (Ilene) Barton of Alpine; siblings: Selma Tuttle, Ruth Cox, Neldon Sitterud, Phyllis (Jerry) May, Mac (Mary) Sitterud, Sally Ryan, Velda Cromply, Sue (Edward) Johnson, Connie Jones, and Colleen (Leon) DeFriez; sister-in-law, Donna Sitterud; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerald; parents, Jesse and Edna Sitterud; infant siblings, Clyde and Elva Sitterud; siblings: Lavar Sitterud, Ray (Myrleen) Sitterud, and Bessie (Shirl) McArthur; brothers-in-law: Bland Tuttle, Fred Cox, Kenneth Ryan, and Bill Jones; and sister-in-law, Lola Sitterud.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Ferron LDS Stake Center (555 South 400 West, Ferron).
