Emery track attended the BYU Invitational. The two teams from Emery High did well in the three-day event featuring high school teams from Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada along with most high school teams from Utah.
The Lady Spartans finished in fifth place in the 1A/2A bracket while the boy’s team finished in seventh place. Region 15 teams did very well in the boys bracket as Richfield was the top team, San Juan was fifth and Grand was sixth along with Emery being seventh.
The lone first place winner was the girls 4×100 relay team. The team of Paytn Jeffs, Hailee Rogers, Bayler Griffin and Ashlynn Allred ran the race in 50.71 seconds to set a new school record in winning the event. They will be favored at both region and state to win.
The 4×400 relay team finished in third place while the sprint medley relay team finished in fifth place. The 4×400 team consisted of Blayr Jeffs, Kelsie Cox, Camrey Johnson and Hanna Dyer. The other team featured Griffin, Blayr, Cox and Dyer.
Sophomore Ashlynn Allred finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.62 and eighth in the 200 meters after pulling up with a tight muscle half way through the race. She was leading at the time of the injury and she limped across the finish line.
Hailee Rogers continued running well as she fought to the end before losing the 400 meter race and finished second in a time of 59.37.
Paytn Jeffs, just a freshman, finished sixth in the long jump with a jump of 15’7″ and then Jeffs finished eighth in the high jump with a jump of 4’11”.
For the boys, senior Brendon Jorgensen had a good day. Jorgie finished second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.71, second in the long jump with a jump of 20’5.75″, and sixth in the 110-meter hurdles.
Justan Potter and Taylor Hansen each high jumped 5′ 11 inches but Potter finished higher in the standings because of fewer misses. Potter finished fifth and Hansen was seventh. The 4×400 boys relay team finished fifth and the 4×100 boys relay team finished seventh.
